Review: GAP Credit Card

The GAP credit card offers the potential for instant approval and the ability to earn rewards at all the GAP family stores: GAP, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta. Many people take advantage of the instant approval in a GAP store once they have already selected clothing, because the card is usually pushed on customers at the store counter when they check out — along with the perk that you’ll get 15% off the item you are about to buy. But you can get instant approval online, too, and still get that 15% off your first purchase. Note, however, that instant approval is not guaranteed; in fact, approval at all is not guaranteed.

However, if you are approved, you’ll not only get the 15% discount offer on your first purchase, but also points on every purchase that you can redeem toward future GAP family purchases. In terms of points, you get:

  • 5 points per dollar on purchases at GAP stores, online or offline.
  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases with the card.

It’s important to note that when you apply for a GAP card, you will first be considered for a GAP Visa, which is accepted at GAP stores and anywhere else Visa is accepted. However, if your credit history is not great, you could instead be offered a GAP store-only card, meaning you can only use it at GAP stores.

The interest rate on the GAP credit card is super high: 25.49%. If you carry a balance on this card, it will most definitely come back to bite you thanks to all of the interest you’ll pay.
